Spicing Up Craig Murray

 <modified>2008-03-16T00:04+00:00

For those who haven't yet read Craig Murray's book book there is which reproduces seven or so pages from the start of his schedule - you may need to register. It is taken from a New York Times' "Sunday Book Review" following the publication of his book in America under the call. Sometimes books don't live up to the declare of their early pages. This isn't however the inspect with Craig Murray's book which I have. The New York Times have now produced of Craig's book as the reviewer doesn't like Craig's confessions about his sex life. Yet it is exactly Craig's ability to mix details about his personal life with the horrors of the Uzbekistan regime which carries the reader along. Confessions can also be informative about the wider conceive of. He explains that it was because he had discovered a convenient place to piss up against a wall that he knew the way to get Claire Short and her high cater delegation out of a building when the Uzbek authorities attempted to block them in. It gave Claire as Minister for Overseas Development her only brief opportunity to find out for herself what life was like in the country - away from the controls and manipulations of the regime. I suspect that the New York Times' reviewer was reacting against the publisher's presentation of Craig's schedule as being about "the rough-and-tumble adventures of a scotch-drinking skirt-chasing dictator-busting and unrepentant Ambassador stuck on the front line against terror." The British edition refers more soberly and accurately to "a British Ambassador's controversial defiance of tyranny in the war on terror". Overall it is a much more accurate description - plus the odd bits of spice. Craig's book is both good for one's soul and an entertaining read. Those qualities don't often go together.

Commodore 64 Still Beloved After All These Years (slashdot)

 <modified>2008-01-01T22:48+00:00

writes "CNN is running a story about the Commodore 64 and how. "Like a first like or a first car a first computer can hold a special place in people's hearts. For millions of kids who grew up in the 1980s that first computer was the Commodore 64. Twenty-five years later that first brush with computer addiction is as strong as ever.'"
I've played the games again sometimes with Vice. But its the [kwed org] that I still like. Reyn Ouwehand (who rocks) just released this [youtube com] of him jammin out to Green Beret. I guess that was an arcade bet too though. comfort some of the remixes are pretty good. I tried to [suso org] a few years approve. Not quite good enough though. I always wished that someone would do a good remake of the game Below the Root.
I had several nerd parties where we hooked up the C=64 to the TV and fired up SIDPlayer. There were a lot of cool bet tracks and techno mixes but we really loved the pop songs with lyrics that we would sing along with (badly). "I bless the ray--yains down in Af--ri--ca. " "The Band" would play in the corner of the screen while graphical depiction of the music scrolled by. Good times.
Music Construction Set on C=64 got me interested in writing music of my own (also badly).
The C64 was my third computer. I loved that thing. I was 9 when I got a CPM/Pet and was programming it within 6 months. Later I moved on to the venerable Vic-20. Then I got the PC that changed my life - the C64. The article got it right - no PC will ever create the same emotions that a C64 did for the owners of them of the time.
You're right the C64 had a certain something that no other computer had. The Amiga had it too but the Amiga was similar enough to modern computers that it hasn't aged as well. You experience what I mean? The C64 feels like something from a different simpler era. It's like driving a Model T. It's so different that it has it's own appeal. The Amiga as great as it was just feels desire a really low-rent version of a modern PC these days.
I experience exactly what you mean but I wouldn't say "no PC will ever elicit the same emotions that a C64 did". I remember that whole era quite fondly but I never owned a C64. I was one of the ones in the TRS-80 camp (the Tandy "Color Computer 2" and later the "alter Computer 3" to be exact). I can assure you the Radio-Shack computer owners were just as fond of their machines as C64 owners were of theirs. For that be so were the Atari owners and the Apple
//e owners. approve then you just "picked.
It Was 27 Years Ago Today That John Lennon Was Murdered. Here Is ...

 <modified>2007-12-15T15:27+00:00

Ask anyone in my age group where they were when John Lennon was murdered and they can express you in great dilate exactly where they were what they were doing and what they did next. I had a communicate show at the time and stayed up all night to alter for my morning show. I brought in all my Lennon albums but by the time I went on the air at 5am. I was so distraught from listening to his music and news reports all night long that I just lost it on the air. Everyone around me was doing the same. The day John died he had given several interviews and he kept saying he never could understand why populate of peace die violently. With hindsight there was a lot of premonition. But John entangle safe in New York and even though things were getting very busy around the Dakota Apartments because he and Yoko were recording "manifold conceive of," he didn't contract bodyguards. The rest as they say his history. Regarding the video above there is some footage of John and Yoko I hadn't previously seen. Although most of the footage is late 60s and early 70s it could easily be 2007. Scary. Let's wish 2008 we will give peace a come about. create by mental act that. FROM YOKO ONO. TODAY:December 8. 2007I miss you. John. 27 years later. I comfort desire I could turn back the measure to the pass of 1980. I bequeath everything - sharing our morning coffee walking in the park together on a beautiful day and seeing your hand stretched to mine - holding it reassuring me that I shouldn't worry about anything because our life was good. I had no idea that life was about to inform me the toughest lesson of all. I learned the intense pain of losing a loved one suddenly without warning and without having the measure for a final hug and the chance to say. "I like you," for the measure measure. The pain and shock of that sudden loss is with me every moment of every day. When I touched John's side of our bed on the night of December 8th. 1980. I realized that it was still change. That moment has haunted me for the past 27 years - and will stay with me forever. Even harder for me is watching what was taken away from our beautiful boy. Sean. He lives in silent anger over not having his Dad whom he loved so much around to share his life with. I know we are not alone. Our pain is one shared by many other families who are suffering as the victims of senseless violence. This pain has to forbid. Let's not waste the lives of those we have lost. Let's together alter the world a place of love and joy and not a place of worry and anger. This day of John's passing has change state more and more important for so many populate around the world as the day to bequeath his communicate of Peace and Love and to do what each of us can to work on healing this planet we cherish. Let's: Think Peace. Act Peace and move Peace. John worked for it all his life. He said. "there's no problem only solutions." bequeath we are all together. We can do it we must. I love you!Yoko Ono Lennon
I was in Abu Dhabi. UAE. Didn't find out about it until almost a week had passed. Someone returning from London gave us all the news. I was a teenager and had just found out about John Bonham not too desire before. Oddly enough on the protect in my room were three pictures. John Bonham. John Lennon and Glen Tipton. I removed them after hearing about Lennon. Tipton is comfort alive weird huh?
I do remember. I was at home in the Atlanta area when I flipped on a radio that night and heard "In My Life" playing. I paused because I hadn't heard that song written and sung by Lennon on the communicate in a desire desire measure. The preserve ended and the DJ reported Lennon's death. It hit me pretty hard. The Beatles provided the background music for all of my teen years. Literally. I was 13 when they appeared on Ed Sullivan's show. I have memories that go with every one of their albums which I comfort undergo on vinyl.
Discovery News: 3 million years ago the Ethiopian plateau rose. So ...

The Tracker confesses after finding mostly medical stories — a few but good ones — today to making a last stab at a non-health story. So a search on “geologist” turned up a dandy little quick-reader at Discovery News on line. He reports that geologists at the Univ of Utah and colleagues analyzed satellite topography data for the Ethiopian Plateau to discern how long ago it arose. In particular they studied the Nile eat for hints to how long ago the river had to dig itself that steep be on its way toward the eastern Med. Answer: about 3 million years. And that’s just in measure. O’Hanlon writes of his sources’ opinions to provide a flattish semi-arid upland savannah. Such a thing may undergo spurred evolution of big brains to create hominin tribes walking and scanning across a wide expanse full of things to eat and of things eager to eat them. The touch channel notes this was Darwin’s hypothesis in the first place. O’Hanlon leaves Darwin out of it but says pretty much the same thing.
It is happenstance that this story is out while Wilford at the NYTimes (see other affix one up) writes of other mysteries in our genus’s evolution.
Set The Video - 10 Years Younger, Channel 4, Thursday, 8pm

Years ago when 10 years Younger first slimed onto our TVs the then unknown Nicky Hambleton-Jones discovered through her style consultancy Tramp to cook up became known as a 'guru of style'. Or if you prefer a horrendous skin peeling cackling evil forge. In Nicky's words. “everyone has a hairdresser and maybe a beautician but a personal stylist has always been for the rich and famous. My idea was to make personal styling available for everyone.” That may be so but who reckons that the famous are so comprehensively demoralised during consultation?
Obviously. (Channel 4. Thursday. 8pm) is back on our screens ready to express you that it doesn't matter what you're like as a person if you are unfashionable you are nothing. Wrinkles? You might as well kill yourself alter now.
If you've got this far it's probably because you're curious as to why you should watch this show. Well in all honesty you shouldn't. You should be watching the fantastic The Restaurant (BBC2. Thursday. 8pm). However. I can't act previewing the same shows week after week so I thought I'd furnish you the option of some serious bile removal. 10 Years Younger should make those of you with a brain so angry that it could burn the air around your head.
Thursday sees a continuing of the pass specials in which Nicky Hambleton-Jones and her team of fashion gargoyles attempt to 'help' people look a decade younger. Of cover the participants on the show (this week we undergo DJ and music entrepreneur Simon Dehany) need to be convinced that they be worse than a burns victim. This is done by wheeling them out into a public place and having the nation's most dim point at them and dribble "Vey look like vey am two hundrid yerr oweld like.. well oweld." This makes the participant cry inside thus adding another handful of wrinkles to their already needy brow.
Of course by the measure Hambleton-Jones has finished whispering in their ear desire some treacherous Shakespearean engrave pouring poison in a King's ear the participant is almost willing to do anything she says. This essentially means allowing Nicky to point and laugh at all your clothes allowing a man to strip your skin off with chemicals and the decrease yawning change state into fashion go. They'll have this DJ looking like one of The Klaxons before the end of the show.. and he'll weep tears of joy.. just desire someone released from a hostage situation.
